Lord Lygon
Carlton, Melbourne
Lord Lygon is a compact yet highly atmospheric hospitality space that distils the character of Lygon Street into a contemporary bottleshop and wine bar experience.
Set within a hotel development and spanning 100m² across a single level, the project is designed as both a destination and a transitional space—somewhere to pause, gather, or extend the evening. The layout supports a fluid experience, allowing patrons to move between retail and hospitality modes, whether selecting a bottle or settling in for a drink.
Materiality plays a central role in shaping the identity of the space. Burnt, rustic timbers are paired with richly veined red stone and layered with leather elements, creating a palette that subtly evokes the depth and complexity of wine itself. The result is a tactile, immersive environment that feels intimate, warm, and grounded.
The project draws on the cultural history of Lygon Street, long associated with Melbourne’s dining and social scene. This connection is interpreted through tone and atmosphere rather than replication, allowing the space to feel both familiar and distinctly contemporary.
Positioned to serve hotel guests, local workers, and visitors to the precinct, Lord Lygon offers a refined yet approachable setting—equally suited to a quick stop, a social drink, or a quiet nightcap.
