Hungry Fox
Essendon Airport, Melbourne
Hungry Fox Café is a warm, community-focused hospitality space designed to anchor a newly established commercial precinct with a sense of familiarity and comfort.
Occupying a 440m² ground floor tenancy, the café introduces a welcoming, barn-inspired interior defined by rich timber palettes and a strong emphasis on natural materiality. Scandinavian timber is used extensively throughout, both internally and externally, providing natural insulation while reinforcing a cohesive and grounded aesthetic.
A key feature of the project is the integration of acoustic performance within the design. Wall panelling is carefully detailed to manage sound absorption, ensuring the space remains comfortable and functional across varying levels of activity. This balance between atmosphere and performance supports both casual dining and informal meetings.
The café was conceived as a place for people to gather—whether for a quick coffee, a meeting, or a moment of pause. Its positioning within the Essendon Airport car dealership precinct is significant, as the first hospitality venue in the area, establishing a central point for connection, relaxation, and daily interaction.
Hungry Fox Café serves a diverse audience, from families to local workers and business owners, offering a considered environment that encourages people to stay, return, and engage with the space.
